Why choose the Happy Hooker charter boat and crew to book your fishing trip with?

Captian Jamie Hinson has over 26 yrs fishing experience in Tenerife, he knows how and where to fish, blank days are very rare! With a max of 4 fishing, 40 knots of speed, quality tackle & everything else needed to land that big fish. Reputation, well just ask anyone when you arrive.

Does everyone get their own rod, do you supply all the bait and tackle?

We take out a maximum of 4 passangers, and everyone will have their own rod the whole of the time. When we fish the bottom each client has two rods, one set on the bottom for the shark or stingray and the other lighter spinning rod to catch a variety of other smaller types of fish.

What is the chance of catching fish, what happens to the fish that you do catch?

There is a very good chance that you will catch a variety of different types of fish, although we never garantee a catch, we are very confident that you will beat your existing record. On a trip out, we do try a few different methods to catch you fish. Sharks and stingrays are released.

Do you make refunds if the weather is bad on the day of our scheduled fishing trip?

How long does it generally take to get to our fishing grounds, how far out will we be?

We will be fishing pretty much within the first ten minutes of leaving the port, being a volcanic island in the middle of the atlantic, Tenerife gets very deep very close into the coast. The boat is capable of 40 knots of speed, so if fishing is not too good where we are, we will move on.

Are there any age limits for kids, do you need to have any prior fishing experince?

We recommend kids of 7yrs or more fish with us, no proir fishing experience necessary. We will tell you exactly what will happen on the trip before leaving port, at the fishing grounds you will be shown how to fish. If experienced, don´t worry, we wont get on your nerves, promise.

When is the best time of the year to go deep sea or big game fishing in Tenerife?

Fishing the bottom is all year round, so is the shark fishing, sharks include blues, makos and hammerheads. There are a variety of different stingrays from 5 kilo to very big! Game fishing for marlin is best from June - Sept when the water is warmer and earlier on in the year for tuna.

Will we be needing any kind of fishing licences to come with you on a days trip?

The boat has a fishing licence that fully covers everyone onboard, it allows that fisherman to legally fish in the Canaries out on our trip. We have all the required safety equipment, life jackets, first aid boxes, GPS, shore radio and are fully legal to operate here in Tenerife.

Is food or drink incuded on your trip, is there anything else that I should bring along?

We provide softdrinks on our trips, if you want to bring food with you, please do. There are supermarkets and snack bars in Puerto Colon, they will make you a sandwich to take away. Alcohol is permitted on the boat, feel free to bring cold beer, but in moderation recommended.

Are there any other recommendation or advice you can offer us for your fishing trip?

Yes, use the toilet before you leave port, especially the ladies as we dont have these facilites aboard. Bring suntan lotion, a sunhat and maybe a thin jumper to keep the sun and wind off. If you are prone to sea sickness, take a tablet before, if your really bad, we will bring you back.

Is it true that some fish you catch in Tenerife are poisonous or dangerous?

When fishing the bottom, very often we catch Weaver fish, or in Spanish "Arañas" on our light tackle. These fish are only ever to be handled by the crew. This fish must be kept outside the boat and never touched. Stingrays must also be handled with care and released after photos.

Do I need to tip the crew, should I sign the guestbook, can I send you our photos?

It´s up to you, if you had a great experience and feel the urge to tip the crew, they could always use that extra beer. Most importantly though is to sign our guestbook and send us your days fishing photos, your feed back and recommendations of our trip are always worth much more.

Are there any other types of fishing we can do in Tenerife like carp or shore fishing?

Yip, carp fishing with Mike, very well recommended, he organises fishing trips for carp upto 30lbs in a reservoir, all equipment is provided, excellent day out http://www.tenerifecarp.co.uk Fishing off the rocks or beach is often productive, you may catch sea bass, dorado etc..
