We normally setup four baited rods with fresh mackerel on wire trace and start out deep to drift and chum the surrounding area. Either all four rods are float fished, or three are set up with floats and one fished under the boat on a shortish line. The baits are set at different depths with the furthest one being the deepest. We set the brake on reels lightly and strike the fish after the initial run. Sharks are brought aboard for photos, hooks removed, revived for a moment over the side of the boat and then returned to the sea. Blue shark will run hard with the bait and stay down deeper, makos however will put up much more of a fight and can often be seen jumping out of the water. |
